| We remember the date someone
was born and we remember the date someone dies, but the most
memorable date for me was the thin line between my near physical
death and my spiritual rebirth. It was June 31, 1984. My best friend Rick Ewing and I were going to be real men and build a tree house with nothing but axes and our own bare hands. After Rick's axe head came loose, I started to swing and soon the top 20' section of the tree fell about 20' feet to concave my skull. The doctors told my mom I would die, or at the very best, I would be brain-damaged. But the doctors weren't counting on the God I served or the prayers of spiritual warriors all around me. |

|
| To the doctor's
amazement, (He told my mom my recovery was nothing short of a
miracle) I survived fatal head trauma. I know now that God was
sending me a message and a wakeup call. First He had a purpose
for me being here and second, I had better wake up and get busy
doing it. Since I was a christian and since I looked like a was
wearing a skullcap (they obviously shaved my head to tape me
back together), my dear friends started to call me "Monk."
The nickname stuck. Years later I would write the Monk's Minutes,
a column about moral issues, for my high school paper. I saw
it as just one of the many ways God wanted me to give Him the
glory. Another gift I felt God has given me is the ability to tell His truth in a way that people understand it. As an avid Star Wars fan, I found many parallels between the trilogy and the real-life drama of the salvation story. The following links provide both my testimony (A personal episode) and the plan of salvation (The Gospel according to Star Wars). Even if you do not believe in God, please read the following pieces to understand a little bit more about me. |
