Bruce Lee
While lacking the discipline to control the stress and pressure that would ultimately kill him, Bruce Lee singlehandedly changed the way the world looked at martial arts and even redefined movements to create his own "jeet kune do." His movies usually show him defending honor. His incredible martial arts ability has made him the most recognized martial artist ever. I like to watch him because of his incredible confidence and his physical discipline.
Jackie Chan
If there is anything such as a family martial arts movie, it would be a Jackie Chan film. His unique ability to combine acrobatics, humor and definite martial skill have allowed him to star in over 70 films. With very little language or sexual content and fewer death scenes, his movies appeal to a larger audience. His movies usually show him helping others. I like to watch Jackie because of his purposeful exclusion of the more questionable material and his distinctive humor.
Jet Li
Though expected to be Bruce Lee's replacement, Jet Li took some time to make it to the American screen. Unfortunately his movies often appear to use wires which distracts from his truly amazing abilities. Nevertheless, he is the current one to watch on the rising martial artist stardom track. So far, he has starred in movies that show a questionable past that is overcome by the movie's end. I like to watch Jet as he uses his incredible martial abilities to scale the heights of stardom.
Steven Seagal
In a culture that has lost its respect for the law and doing what is right, it is good to see a little justice served. America's martial artist, Steven Seagal plays the tough guy who is always willing to get involved to stop what is wrong. Contrary to Bruce, Jackie and Jet who base their martial abilities off of Chinese arts, Steven uses the Japanese art of Aikido as his base form. I like to watch Steven because I enjoy seeing someone chose to stand against what is wrong and yet win.
