When I first decided to attend college, I had a very limited choice since only four schools offered majors in Agricultural Communications and Agricultural Education. Midway through my college experience, I felt the Lord call me into English Education and Journalism Education. Despite what people say about the size of OSU, I thoroughly enjoyed the many opportunities to get to know so many new people. I am so glad I chose to go to a big school, learn to be on my own, and have so many positive experiences. |

God led me to one of the most enjoyable experiences of college my second day of school. Through Campus Crusade for Christ I was able to continue my development as a christian and meet some good friends. The best friends I developed were John Ruck, Barry Plassman, and Eric Smith. Together we formed a God Squad-type Bible study known as the E Team. The "E" stood for "Elohim", one of the names of God. We were also actively involved in evangelism and encouragement so hence the name. From Bible study to creative dates, the E Team bonded and developed as men committed to God and to each other. Other close college friends I met through CCC were Jim Conrad and Scott Cornell. |

I was actively involved in the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow, the Agricultural Education Society and the professional agricultural fraternity, Alpha Zeta. The Townshend chapter of Alpha Zeta was one of only three house chapters of the highly regarded agricultural honorary. My best experiences at AZ were hanging out with my first roommate, John Sommers, and with Dean Schilling, my big brother. Dean also served as my spiritual mentor in Crusade. We often had a little christian fun as illustrated at the right. |

Dean encouraged me to attend a summer project with Campus Crusade. I went to two. The first one, in Virginia Beach, helped me realign my foundations in Christ. I met many new friends there and developed really close relationships with the members of my impact group. I also meet the woman I would some day marry on this project. More information about the two projects is listed under Lacrisha, the love of my life. |

One of my best friends on the Virginia Beach project (besides Lacrisha of course!) was Steve Hansel. His depth of relationship with God and his uncanny ability to see the real issues made us fast friends. He was one of the first to people who advised me to pursue Lacrisha. (I can't thank him enough!) Nothing ever seemed to rock his faith in God and his compassion for the lost has always inspired me. I pray that all in well in his current ministry. |

Since the bank thought my dad should mortgage the farm to get me through school, I sought out other means of funding. I took a job as a resident adviser in Steeb Hall on the rowdy side of campus. I actually learned more about teaching through my RA experiences than I did in my education classes. I had many trying times such as pulling a suicidal girl back inside from a sixth floor window and shouting down a group of twenty drunk men, but I survived! |
